From the New Caledonian Xylopia vieillardi, two new isoquinoline alkaloids, dehydroxylopine {1}, a dehydroaporphine, and dehydrocorytenchine {2}, a protoberberine, have been isolated and characterized, in addition to twenty-five known isoquinoline, benzylisoquinoline, aporphinoid, and protoberberine type alkaloids. The structures of the new compounds were determined by spectroscopic analysis. Unambiguous H-1-nmr assignments of 2,3,10,11-substituted phenolic tetrahydroprotoberberines in CF3COOD are also reported.

IMPROVED METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE OXYGEN ISOTOPIC COMPOSITION OF CELLULOSE

A modification of a chemical preparation procedure for oxygen isotope analysis of cellulose has been developed which yields greater precision and requires less time for sample preparation.
