Isoquinoline alkaloids isolated from three Guatteria species

The chemical investigation of the aerial parts of Guatteria ferruginea collected in the National Park of Serra dos Orgaos, Teresopolis, Brazil and of Guatteria latifolia and Guatteria sellowiana collected in the National Park of Itatiaia, Itatiaia, Brazil resulted in the isolation and identification of six isoquinoline alkaloids, two aporphine alkaloids 3-hydroxy-nornuciferine (1), nornuciferine (2) and four oxoaporphine alkaloids lysicamine (3), isomoschatoline (4), liriodenine (5) and O-methylmoschatoline (6). The isoquinoline alkaloids were found in the species G. ferruginea, G. latifolia and G. sellowiana for the first time and they support the taxonomic position within the genus Guatteria. Cultures of Cunninghamella elegans were grown for 7 days in liquid Sabouraud medium containing 1.9 mM quinoline or isoquinoline. The spent culture media were extracted with ethyl acetate; metabolites were purified by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and thin-layer chromatography. Cholinesterase inhibitory isoquinoline alkaloids from Corydalis mucronifera

Eight previously undescribed isoquinoline alkaloids, mucroniferanines H-M, together with 16 known isoquinoline alkaloids, were isolated from Corydalis mucronifera Maxim.. The structures of the previously undescribed compounds were elucidated by interpretation of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic and HAMS data, and their absolute configurations were established by computational electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations and X-ray diffraction data. Mucroniferanine L is reported as the first natural amide bond linked isoquinoline alkaloid dimer. The isolated compounds were evaluated for AChE and BuChE inhibitory activities and mucroniferanine H showed significant activities with IC50 values of 2.31 mu M and 36.71 mu M, respectively.

The crystal structure of the isoquinoline:picric acid complex (C9H7N . C6H3N3O7) was determined by means of X-ray crystal analysis. Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of 3-(Trifluoromethyl)-2H- imidazo[5,1-a]isoquinolinium Chloride Derivatives

A series of novel blue-light-emitting 2H-imidazo[5,1-a]isoquinolinium chloride derivatives were synthesized by the reaction of isoquinoline with trifluoroacetimidoyl chlorides and isocyanides in dry CH2Cl2 in excellent yields. Fluorescence studies showed that the compounds absorb UV radiation and then emit blue light at about 481 nm with moderate to good fluorescence quantum yields. These compounds also showed high Stokes shifts, and can be used to develop ultrasensitive fluorescent molecular probes to study a variety of biological events and processes.
