Herein, we present a photochemical method that under visible light irradiation, selectfluor can effectively promote the oxidative cross-coupling between alcohols and heteroarenes without the external photocatalysis, achieving the selective alpha sp3 C?H arylation of alcohol, even in the presence of ether. The N-F activation of selectfluor under blue LEDs irradiation is evidenced by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) study, which is the key process for the oxidative activation of alpha sp3 C?H alcohols. The observed reactivity may have significant implications for chemical transformations.

A diastereoselective mercury(II)-promoted intramolecular cyclization of unsaturated aldehyde via an oxazolidine to prepare C-3-substituted tetrahydroisoquinoline is disclosed. The C-3 stereogenic center is subsequently exploited to create the C-1 stereocenter by coordination of the nucleophilic reagent to the oxygen atom of oxazolidine. Both cis- and trans-1,3-disubstituted tetrahydroisoquinolines can be readily prepared. In addition, when a cationic rhodium complex was used, intramolecular hydroamination was effected, thus avoiding mercury(II) salts and demercuration. The reaction is general and works well using aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes.

Ir(III) complex-based phosphorescence and electrochemiluminescence chemodosimetric probes for Hg(II) ions with high selectivity and sensitivity

Mercury, one of the most prevalent toxic metal elements, poses severe risks to human health and the environment. Several molecular probes have been developed for colorimetric and fluorometric detection of Hg(ii) ions. Nevertheless, development of a rapid, selective, and sensitive probe for Hg(ii) ions remains important. Herein, we report three Ir(iii) complex-based phosphorescence and electrochemiluminescence chemodosimeters for the selective detection of Hg(ii) ions. The acetylacetonate ancillary ligand of probe 1 reacts selectively with the Hg(ii) ion, inducing phosphorescence enhancement with a concomitant blue-shift. Meanwhile, the Hg(ii) ion selectively quenches the phosphorescence of probe 2. Probes 1 and 2 showed low detection limits (LOD) of 73 and 160 nM, respectively. In addition, the Hg(ii) ion level was successfully monitored by the electrochemiluminescence decrement of probe 9 with a good linear correlation between 0 and 40 muM, with a detection limit of 170 pM.

Novel synthesis of pyrrolo[2,1-a]-isoquinoline using the reaction of isoquinolinium salts with active methylene compounds

2-Alkyl-1-methylthioisoquinolinium salts were easily prepared from 2-alkyl-1(2H)-isoquinolones via 2-alkyl-1(2H)-thioisoquinolones in two steps. Under mild conditions, the reaction of 2-alkyl-1-methylthioisoquinolinium salts with active methylene compounds in the presence of sodium hydride afforded 2-alkyl-1-(substituted methylene)isoquinolines in good yields. The cyclizationof 2-benzylisoquinolines using acetic anhydride produced the pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines. Further, the reaction of 1-chloro-2-phenacylisoquinolinium salt with active methylene compounds afforded the pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolines in one pot.

Synthesis, characterization, photophysics and electrophosphorescent applications of phosphorescent platinum cyclometalated complexes with 9-arylcarbazole moieties

A series of cyclometalating platinum(II) complexes with substituted 9-arylcarbazolyl chromophores have been synthesized and characterized. These complexes are thermally stable and most of them have been characterized by X-ray crystallography. The phosphorescence emissions of the complexes are dominated by 3MLCT excited states. The excited state properties of these complexes can be modulated by varying the electronic characteristics of the cyclometalating ligands via substituent effects, thus allowing the emission to be tuned from bright green to yellow, orange and red light. The correlation between the functional properties of these metallophosphors and the results of density functional theory calculations was made. Because of the propensity of the electron-rich carbazolyl group to facilitate hole injection/transport, the presence of such moiety can increase the highest occupied molecular orbital levels and improve the charge balance in the resulting complexes relative to the parent platinum(II) phosphor with 2-phenylpyridine ligand. The solution-processed electrophosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes doped with these platinum-based phosphors have been fabricated which showed a maximum external quantum efficiency of 2.77% for the best device, corresponding to a power efficiency of 3.48 lm/W and a luminance efficiency of 8.49 cd/A. The present work enables the rational design of platinum-carbazolyl electrophosphors by synthetically tailoring the structure of carbazolylpyridine ring that can permit good color-tuning versatility suitable for multi-color display technology.

Decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions of substituted 2-carboxyazine N-oxides, with a variety of (hetero)aryl halides, by bimetallic Pd 0/CuI and Pd0/AgI catalysis are reported. Two possible pathways, a conventional bimetallic-catalyzed decarboxylative arylation, as well as a protodecarboxylative/direct C-H arylation sequence have been considered. These methods provide the first general decarboxylative arylation methodology for the 2-carboxyazine series. Choose your pathway: Decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions of substituted 2-carboxyazine N-oxides, with a variety of (hetero)aryl halides, by bimetallic Pd0/CuI and Pd0/AgI catalysis are reported (see figure).
