Spiropyran derivatives have been studied as light-regulated chemosensors for a variety of metal cations and anions, but there is little research on chemosensors that simultaneously detect multiple metal cations. In this study, a spiropyran derivative with isoquinoline, SP-IQ, was prepared and it functions investigated as a light-regulated sensor for both Co2+ and In3+ cations. A colorless nonfluorescent SP-IQ converts to a pink-colored fluorescent MC-IQ by UV irradiation or standing in the dark, and MC-IQ returns to SP-IQ with visible light. Upon UV irradiation with the Co2+ cation for 7 min, the stronger absorption at 540 nm and the similar fluorescence intensity at 640 nm are observed, compared to when no metal cation is added, due to the formation of a Co2+ complex with pink color and pink fluorescence. When placed in the dark with the In3+ cation for 7 h, the colorless solution of SP-IQ changes to the In3+ complex with yellow color and pink fluorescence, which shows strong absorption at 410 nm and strong fluorescence at 640 nm. Selective detection of the Co2+ cation with UV irradiation and the In3+ cation in the dark could be possible with SP-IQ by both absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy or by the naked eye.

Photophysical properties and OLED performance of light-emitting platinum(ii) complexes

The synthesis, photophysical properties and application as emitters in solution-processed multi-layer organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) of a series of blue-green to red light-emitting phosphorescent platinum(ii) complexes are reported. These complexes consist of phenylisoquinoline, substituted phenylpyridines or tetrahydroquinolines as C^N cyclometalating ligands and dipivaloylmethane as an ancillary ligand. Depending on both the structure of the C^N cyclometalating ligands and the dopant concentration in the matrix, these platinum(ii) complexes exhibit different aggregation tendencies. This property affects the photoluminescence spectra of the investigated compounds and colour-stability of the fabricated OLEDs. Using the blue-green to yellow-green emitting complexes, the best results were obtained with the 2-(4- trifluoromethylphenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline based platinum(ii) complex. A maximum luminous efficiency of 4.88 cd A-1 and a power efficiency of 4.65 lm W-1, respectively, were achieved. Employing the red emitting phenylisoquinoline based complex as an emitter, colour-stable and efficient (4.71 cd A-1, 5.12 lm W-1) devices were obtained.

Synthesis and structure-activity relationship study of antimicrotubule agents phenylahistin derivatives with a didehydropiperazine-2,5-dione structure

Plinabulin (11, NPI-2358) is a potent microtubule-targeting agent derived from the natural diketopiperazine “phenylahistin” (1) with a colchicine-like tubulin depolymerization activity. Compound 11 was recently developed as VDA and is now under phase II clinical trials as an anticancer drug. To develop more potent antimicrotubule and cytotoxic derivatives based on the didehydro-DKP skeleton, we performed further modification on the tert-butyl or phenyl groups of 11, and evaluated their cytotoxic and tubulin-binding activities. In the SAR study, we developed more potent derivatives 33 with 2,5-difluorophenyl and 50 with a benzophenone in place of the phenyl group. The anti-HuVEC activity of 33 and 50 exhibited a lowest effective concentration of 2 and 1 nM for microtubule depolymerization, respectively. The values of 33 and 50 were 5 and 10 times more potent than that of CA-4, respectively. These derivatives could be a valuable second-generation derivative with both vascular disrupting and cytotoxic activities.
