A simple method is described for the synthesis of substituted diphenylmethane derivatives in excellent yields by friedel-craft alkylation reaction under solvent free condition using molybdenum promoted ZrO2 solid acid catalyst at 80°C. The MoO3/ZrO2 catalyst has been prepared from using impregnation method followed by calcination at 923K for 6 h in air atm. This catalyst was characterized by various techniques such as SEM, XRD, FTIR, UV DRS, and BET surface area. Zirconia has both acidic and basic properties which can be altered by incorporating suitable promoter atom like Mo which inturn increase the surface area thereby enhance the surface acidity. Impregnation of Mo ions shows a strong influence on phase modification of zirconia from thermodynamically more stable monoclinic to metastable tetragonal phase. Incorporation of promoter Mo will stabilize tetragonal phase which is active in catalyzing reactions. In friedel-craft alkylation MoO3/ZrO2 catalyst was found to be stable, efficient and environmentally friendly, easily recovered by filtration, higher yield of product and can be reusable efficiently.

Oeschger, Raphael J. published the artcileOrigin of the Difference in Reactivity between Ir Catalysts for the Borylation of C-H Bonds, Product Details of C8H10O2, the main research area is origin difference reactivity iridium catalyst borylation CH bonds.

A mechanistic study on the origin of the difference in reactivity between Ir catalysts for C-H borylation reactions is reported. Catalytic reactions of B2pin2 with a series of substrates that require high temperatures and long reaction times were conducted. These reactions catalyzed by the combination of [Ir(COD)(OMe)]2 and 3,4,7,8-tetramethylphenanthroline (tmphen) occur in yields that are substantially higher than those of reactions catalyzed by [Ir(COD)(OMe)]2 and 4,4′-di-tert-butylbipyridine (dtbpy). The electronic properties of Ir catalysts ligated by dtbpy or tmphen and their stoichiometric reactivity were investigated. It was found that a longer lifetime rather than higher reactivity of the catalyst leads to higher yields of reactions catalyzed by Ir-tmphen. The catalyst ligated by dtbpy decomposes principally by dissociation of the ligand and rapid borylation at the positions alpha to nitrogen. Thus, the greater stability of the catalyst containing tmphen results from its greater binding constant

Yurino, Taiga published the artcileFriedel-Crafts-type Allylation of Phenol Derivatives Catalyzed by In Situ-Generated Silyl Cyanometallates, Recommanded Product: 1,3-Dimethoxybenzene, the main research area is Friedel Crafts allylation phenol derivative catalyzed silyl cyanometalate intermediate; allylic phosphate Friedel Crafts allylation palladium silver catalyzed cyanotrimethylsilane; anisole para allylated regioselective preparation.

Authors successfully demonstrated that Friedel-Crafts-type allylation of phenol derivatives and allylic phosphates is catalyzed by the AgTFA/trimethylsilyl cyanide (Me3SiCN) and Pd(OAc)2/Me3SiCN combined systems to afford the C-allylated product in a highly regioselective manner. The corresponding silyl cyanometallates generated in situ are proposed to be the active catalytic species. Lewis acidity of the reversibly formed ion pairs is appropriately regulated for this reaction. The para-allylated anisole and phenol derivatives are selectively obtained. The para-substituted ones are converted to the ortho-allylated products. The reactivity of the catalytic systems is strongly dependent on the electronic nature of both electrophile and nucleophile. Substitution of an aromatic ring on the allylic phosphate is essential for the reaction. Thus, the competitive reaction of a 1 : 1 mixture of cinnamyl and simple allyl phosphates affords only the cinnamyl-substituted product.

The generation of ε-carbonyl cations and their reactions with nucleophiles is accomplished readily without transition metal cation stabilization, using the ε-bromide dienoate or dienone starting materials and GaCl3 or InCl3 catalysis. Arene nucleophiles are somewhat more straightforward than allyltrimethylsilane, but allyltrimethylsilane and propiophenone trimethysilyl enol ether each react successfully with InCl3 catalysis. Azetidines are valuable motifs that readily access under explored chem. space for drug discovery. 3,3-Diarylazetidines are prepared in high yield from N-Cbz azetidinols in a calcium(II)-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts alkylation of (hetero)aromatics and phenols, including complex phenols such as β-estradiol. Electron poor phenols undergo O-alkylation. The product azetidines can be derivatized to drug-like compounds through the azetidine nitrogen and the aromatic groups. The N-Cbz group is crucial to reactivity by providing stabilization of an intermediate carbocation on the four-membered ring.

To explore if the catalytic activity of single-metal species in halometallate catalysts can be enhanced with mixed-metal species, aluminum and gallium were simultaneously introduced to prepare a mixed-metal ionic liquid (IL) through a one-pot reaction of [HN222]Cl, AlCl3, and GaCl3 in various amounts The Lewis acidity in Friedel-Crafts acylation and alkylation reactions of these IL compositions were evaluated and all mixed-metal [HN222][xAlCl3 + (2 – x)GaCl3]Cl ILs exhibited higher catalytic activity than AlCl3, GaCl3, [HN222][Al2Cl7], or [HN222][Ga2Cl7]. The broadening in 27Al NMR of these ILs indicates the presence of dynamic anionic species, whereas matrix-assisted laser-desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) and acetonitrile-probed Fourier transform IR (FT-IR) analyses correlates the structure-activity relationship, for instance, identifying the presence of mixed-metal-containing [Cl2GaOClAlClOGaCl2]- species in the better-performing ILs.

Ryde, Ingvild published the artcileVolatile organic compound emissions from subarctic mosses and lichens, COA of Formula: C8H10O2, the main research area is volatile organic compound emission concentration relative humidity statistical analysis.

Plant volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions can drive important climate feedbacks. Although mosses and lichens are important components of plant communities, their VOC emissions are poorly understood. It is crucial to obtain more knowledge on moss and lichen VOCs to improve ecosystem VOC emission models. This is especially relevant at high latitudes, where mosses and lichens are abundant and VOC emissions are expected to increase in response to climate change. In this study, we examined VOC emissions from four common moss (Hylocomium splendens, Pleurozium schreberi, Sphagnum warnstorfii, and Tomentypnum nitens) and lichen (Cladonia arbuscula, Cladonia mitis, Cladonia pleurota, and Nephroma arcticum) species in the Subarctic using gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Moss and lichen VOC emissions were dominated by low mol. weight (LMW) VOCs, such as acetone and acetaldehyde, as well as hydrocarbons (HCs) and oxygenated VOCs (oVOCs). Of the studied mosses, S. warnstrofii had the highest and H. splendens had the lowest total VOC emission rates. The VOC emission blends of P. schreberi, S. warnstrofii, and T. nitens were clearly distinct from one another. Of the lichens, N. arcticum had a different VOC blend than the Cladonia spp. N. arcticum also had higher emission rates of HCs, oVOCs, and other GC-MS-based VOCs, but lower LMW VOC emission rates than the other lichen species. Our study demonstrates that mosses and lichens emit considerable amounts of various VOCs and that these emissions are species dependent.

The highly regio-selective O-methylation of catechol with di-Me carbonate (DMC), catalyzed by a solid acid-base catalyst, is an environmentally friendly chem. process for industrial production of guaiacol. However, a guaiacol yield below 84% and high reaction temperature above 280 °C limit its industrial application. Here, hollow, mesoporous Zn1-xMgxO nano-spheres with a eutectic structure, denoted as Zn1-xMgxO HMNSs (x = 0.012-0.089), are facilely fabricated via the calcination of Mg2+/Zn2+ ion-adsorbing carbon spheres at 500 °C in air. In the O-methylation of catechol with DMC at 180 °C, Zn1-xMgxO HMNSs (x = 0.052) afford guaiacol in 95.5% yield with a complete catechol conversion. Furthermore, 89.0-95.3% mono-ether yields with high 1,2-diphenol conversions (94.5-100%) are also obtained for the other 1,2-diphenols bearing -CH3 and -Br groups. Moreover, a plausible mechanism for highly selective O-methylation of catechol with DMC is proposed, in which the single-site activation and double-site activation of phenolic hydroxyls by the basic oxygen of Mg-O afford guaiacol and veratrole, resp.

Aromatic bromides are important chems. in nature and chem. industries. However, their traditional synthesis routes suffer from low at. economy and pollutant formation. Herein, we show that organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr3) nanocrystals stabilized in aqueous HBr solution can achieve simultaneous aromatic bromination and hydrogen evolution using HBr as the bromine source under visible light irradiation By hybridizing MAPbBr3 with Pt/Ta2O5 and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate as electron- and hole-transporting motifs, aromatic bromides were achieved from aromatic compounds with high yield (up to 99%) and selectivity (up to 99%) with the addition of N,N-dimethylformamide or its analogs. The mechanistic studies revealed that the bromination proceeds via an electrophilic attack pathway and that HOBr may be the key intermediate in the bromination reaction.
