A new interpretation of the ESIPT mechanism of 2-(benzimidazol-2-yl)-3-hydroxychromone derivatives

The present study demonstrates the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) mechanism of 2-(benzimidazol-2-yl)-3-hydroxychromone (DH3B2) is based on density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) methods. We find that DH3B2-C is the main conformation to occur ESIPT. Moreover, we get the different results of DH3B2 for the ESIPT mechanisms in comparison with the previous reports. We have optimized three isomers (DH3B2-A, DH3B2-B and DH3B2-C), and calculated absorption and fluorescence spectra, which agree well with the experimental data. Furthermore, we prove the hydrogen bond is enhanced in the S1 state by comparing infrared vibrational spectra, the relevant bond length and bond angle. In our calculations, the results of the three levels of calculations (CAM-B3LYP/TZVP, B3LYP/TZVP and PBEPBE/TZVP) indicate that DH3B2-C is the most stable conformation, by compared the single point energy of three isomers. By constructed the potential energy surfaces (PESs), we find the converted relationship among the three isomers; DH3B2-C is the main conformation in which DH3B2 exists. Furthermore, combination with reduced density gradient (RDG) function, the hydrogen bond of DH3B2-C is stronger than that of DH3B2-A and DH3B2-B, which proves that DH3B2-C form is the most favorable form for ESIPT among the three isomers. Meanwhile, we have further investigated the ESIPT mechanisms of DH3B2, via constructing the potential energy curves (PECs). These results have shown that DH3B2-C is easier to ESIPT occur than DH3B2-A and DH3B2-B. Therefore, the proton receptors of the ESIPT are mainly the benzimidazole nitrogen atoms.

Endogenous opioid peptides (EOP) and dopamine (DA)-derived salsolinol are implicated in the suckling-induced prolactin surge. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the opioidergic and salsolinergic activity in the mediobasal hypothalamus of nursing sheep. The sheep were infused intracerebroventricularly with opioid receptors antagonists: naloxone (all types of receptors, n=6); naloxonazine (mu receptor, n=6) or the vehicle (control, n=6) in a series of five 30-min infusions (60 mug/60 mul) from 10:00 to 15:00, at 30-min intervals. The period of the experiment included the non-suckling (10:00-12:30) and suckling (12:30-15:00) periods. Simultaneously, a push-pull perfusion of the infundibular nucleus/median eminence was performed in every sheep to study the dopaminergic system activity. Blood samples were also collected at 10-minute intervals to determine plasma prolactin concentration. Both the mean perfusate salsolinol and plasma prolactin concentrations were higher during the suckling vs. non-suckling (P<0.001) period in the control. The perfusate DA concentration was below the detection limit in this group. Treatment with either naloxone or naloxonazine significantly (P<0.01) diminished plasma prolactin concentration, as compared with the controls and blocked the prolactin surge during suckling. In drug-infused sheep, the perfusate salsolinol concentration was below the detection limit but the increased DA and its metabolite 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid concentrations were observed. In conclusion, the stimulatory action of EOP on prolactin secretion in nursing females is mediated, at least in part, by salsolinol, and the ligands for mu opioid receptor may be the primary factors of this relationship, especially with respect to the suckling-induced prolactin surge. Luminescent Pt(ii) complexes bearing dual isoquinolinyl pyrazolates: Fundamentals and applications

A series of four Pt(ii) metal complexes with trans-arranged isoquinolinyl azolates have been prepared, [Pt(Lx)2], x = 1-4, (1-4). The associated chelates possess various substituents; namely: one t-butyl (But) at the 6-position (L1), two But groups at the 5,7-positions (L2), one dip (2,6-di-isopropylphenyl) group at the 6-position (L3), and a single dip group at the 4-position of the 1-isoquinolinyl fragment (L4), respectively. Crystal structures of 1 and 4 were determined to shed light on the relationship of photophysics and packing arrangements. Their photophysical properties were measured and compared, for which the solid-state emission spectra of 2 and 4 are nearly identical to the solution spectra of all the Pt(ii) complexes, showing the formation of isolated molecular entities. In contrast, the Pt(ii) complexes 1 and 3 are found to be sensitive to their morphological states and external stimulus. This is confirmed by the gradual red-shifting of the emission with increasing concentration in the PMMA matrix, and the eventual formation of the broadened, metal-metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MMLCT) emission, by (i) wetting with acetone and drying in air, or (ii) grinding with a mortar and pestle, respectively. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) were also fabricated using multiple layered architecture and lowered doping concentration (e.g. 8 wt%), the latter is for avoiding dopant aggregation in the emitting layer. The associated OLED performances (i.e. etamax = 11.5%, 8.5%, and 11.2% for 1, 2 and 3) confirmed their suitability and potential as dopants for phosphorescent OLEDs.
