Boryl ligands play a very important role in catalysis because of their very high electron-donating property. NNB-type boryl anions were designed as tridentate ligands to promote aryl C-H borylation. In combination with [IrCl(COD)]2, they generate a highly active catalyst for a broad range of (hetero)arene substrates, including highly electron-rich and/or sterically hindered ones. This work provides a new NNB-type tridentate boryl ligand to support homogeneous organometallic catalysis.

Zhao, Haiwei published the artcileTwo Ligands Transfer from Ag to Pd: En Route to (SIPr)Pd(CF2H)(X) and Its Application in One-Pot C-H Borylation/Difluoromethylation, Computed Properties of 151-10-0, the main research area is fluoromethyl palladium imidazolinylidene complex preparation crystal structure fluoromethylation catalyst; crystal structure fluoromethyl palladium arylimidazolinylidene complex; mol structure fluoromethyl palladium arylimidazolinylidene complex; hetero arene borylation difluoromethylation palladium catalyst; fluoromethylated heteroarene preparation.

A process for the concurrent transfer of both the NHC ligand and difluoromethyl group from [(SIPr)Ag(CF2H)] to PdX2 (X = Cl, OAc and OPiv) for the preparation [(SIPr)Pd(CF2H)X] complexes is described. These complexes were air-stable and easily underwent transmetalation with aryl pinacol boronate/reductive elimination to generate ArCF2H in high yields. Based on this discovery, the 1st 1-pot C-H borylation and difluoromethylation for the preparation of difluoromethylated (hetero)arenes was developed.

Taking advantage of the “”differentiating effect”” of the solvent methanol, deuterations of electron-rich aromatic systems can be carried out under mild acid catalysis and thus under far milder conditions than known so far. The exceptional functional group tolerance observed under the optimized conditions, which even includes highly acid-labile groups, results from a hitherto unexploited shifted selectivity in protonation, and enabled simple and straightforward access to complex deuterium-labeled compounds

Synthesis of α-aryl-oxindoles was reported from isatin via a two-step procedure involving a phospha-Brook rearrangement and a Friedel-Crafts alkylation in a one-pot procedure. The use of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP) as solvent significantly extended the reaction substrate scope to include relatively less electron rich arenes including benzene. This new alkylation method is fast, straightforward and allows for the direct introduction of the oxindole moiety onto a range of aromatic compounds including phenols. Addnl., the application of arylated products was shown in decarboxylative asym. allylation and protonation.

We have developed a protocol for the synthesis of diaryl thio-/selenoethers by the reaction of aryl chalcogenocyanates with electron rich arenes/hetero arenes via HFIP promoted C-H activation. The reaction produces chalcogenides in good to excellent yields under mild conditions without the need of a transition metal as a catalyst. The direct C-3 arylation of quinoxalin-2-ones with arenes was achieved by a Pd(TFA)2-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) reaction. A wide array of functionalities, including highly sensitive allyl- and benzyl group substituted quinoxalin-2(H)-ones I [R = Me, geranyl, Bn, 4-ClBn 4-MeBn; R1 = H, Me, F, Cl, Br, COOMe; R2 = H, Me, F, Cl, Br; R3 = Ph, 2-MeC6H4, 4-FC6H4, etc.], were readily assembled with arenes containing electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups in this CDC reaction. Highly regioselective products were produced in good yields with stronger electron-donating groups than toluene and densely substituted arenes as coupling partners. This protocol represented an efficient technique to access various 3-arylbenzo[g]quinoxalinones II [R4 = Me, Bn; R5 = Ph, 4-ClC6H4, 4-OMeC6H4] and 2-aryl-4-methylpyrido[3,4-b]pyrazin-3(4H)-ones under mild conditions.

While several trifluoromethylation reactions involving the electrochem. generation of CF3 radicals via anodic oxidation have been reported, the alternative cathodic, reductive radical generation has remained elusive. Herein, the first cathodic trifluoromethylation of arenes and heteroarenes is reported.
