An aryl(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)(trifluoromethyl)sulfonium triflate was isolated as a trifluoromethylthiolation intermediate and its structure determined by X-ray crystallog., supporting an interrupted Pummerer reaction mechanism for the trifluoromethylthiolation.
