Dichlobenil (2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile) inhibited rice germination and was toxic to young seedlings, and is thus unsuitable for direct-seeded rice. II had a wider range of latitude in time of application than the other herbicides. Greenhouse experiments indicated that I moves down in percolating water but is adsorbed more readily in fine than in coarse-textured soils.
