Herein, the first Oxone-mediated direct arylhydroxylation of activated alkenes were developed for the synthesis of valuable hydroxyl-containing oxindoles and 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2-ones. The products were controlled by adjusting the structure of the initial alkenes. Moreover, the reaction were performed under simple conditions without any external additives or catalysts. Primary mechanistic studies showed that this reaction were a tandem process involving epoxidation and subsequent Friedel-Crafts alkylation, and oxone played a dual role (both the oxidant and proton source) in this process.

A protocol for the generation and precise control of the sulfonyl radical from dimethylsulfamoyl chloride was reported. Different kinds of alkyl sulfonates and sulfonamides were efficiently and selectively obtained under redox-neutral conditions by controlling the reactivity of photocatalysts. A mechanism for the generation of sulfamoyl and sulfonate radicals from dimethylsulfamoyl chloride and the followed sulfonation and sulfonamidation were proposed. This reaction system offers a distinct advantage over traditional oxidation or reduction sulfonation methods in not requiring the use of sulfur dioxide, sulfonic acid, a stoichiometric reductant, or a stoichiometric oxidant. Thus, it should be of practical value for the late-stage functionalization of natural products or medicines.

B-homologation reactions represent an efficient and programmable approach to prepare alkylboronates, which are valuable and versatile synthetic intermediates. The typical B-homologation reaction, also known as the Matteson reaction, involves formal carbenoid insertions into C-B bonds. Here the authors report the development of aza-Matteson reactions via carbenoid insertions into the N-B bonds of aminoboranes. By changing the leaving groups of the carbenoids and altering Lewis acid activators, selective mono- and double-methylene insertions can be realized to access various α- and β-B-substituted tertiary amines, resp., from common secondary amines. The derivatization of complex amine-containing bioactive mols., diverse functionalization of the boronate products, and sequential insertions of different carbenoids also were achieved.

In this paper, the N-monomethylation of aniline derivatives using Pd/C catalyst and methanol as the methylation reagent was investigated. The N-monomethylation of various aryl amines was achieved with high activity and selectivity under relatively mild reaction conditions, and the yield of N-monomethyl anilines ArNHMe [Ar = Ph, 4-pyridyl, 2-MeC6H4, etc.] was over 90 %. Notably, the com., readily available, and inexpensive heterogeneous catalyst, Pd/C, could be easily recovered and reused more than five times with only a slight decrease in activity; gram-scale experiments were also successfully performed.
