Carbon dioxide can play a vital role as a sustainable feedstock for chem. synthesis. To be viable, the employed protocol should be as mild as possible. Herein we report a methodol. to incorporate CO2 into primary, secondary, aromatic or alkyl amines catalyzed by a Rh(I) complex bearing a perimidine-based NHC/phosphine pincer ligand. The periminide-based ligand belongs to a class of 6-membered NHC ligand accessed through chelate-assisted double C-H activation. N-Formylation and -methylation of amines were performed using a balloon of CO2, and phenylsilane as the reducing agent. Product selectivity between formylated and methylated products was tuned by changing the solvent, reaction temperature and the quantity of phenylsilane used. Medium to excellent conversions, as well as tolerance to a range of functional groups, were achieved. Stoichiometric reactions with reactants employed in catalysis and time course studies suggested that formylation and methylation reactions of interest begin with hydrosilylation of CO2 followed by reaction with amine substrates.

An efficient method was developed for the reductive amination of CO2 by using readily available and recyclable oxofluorovanadates as catalysts. Various amines were transformed into the desired N-formylated products in moderate to excellent yields at room temperature in the presence of phenylsilane. Mechanistic studies based on in situ IR spectroscopy suggest a reaction pathway initiated through F-Si interactions. The activated phenylsilane allows for CO2 insertion to produce phenylsilyl formate, which undergoes attack by the amine to generate the target product.

Starting from an extensive range of ketones, it was possible to synthesize and isolate the desired pure isomer by switching the reaction conditions. Lewis acid activation enables the formation of the (E)-isomers in high stereoselectivity (>90:10) and good yields. However, the use of a Bronsted acid gave the (Z)-isomers, again in high selectivity (up to 99:1), with moderate yields.

An environmentally benign synthetic studies of N-formylated amine derivatives by carbon dioxide fixation of amines was investigated in presence of Merrifield resin supported palladium nanomaterial (Pd-PS-amtp catalyst) at ambient temperature Poly(methylhydrosiloxane) was employed as a susceptible hydride transferring agent in the present CO2 fixation reaction. Further this catalyst exhibited an extended catalytic activity for the production of organic carbamates from di-Me carbonate and aromatic amines. The Pd-PS-amtp nanomaterial was produced by two step strategies and systematically characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis, FE-SEM and TGA-DTA anal. The benefits of this system were quite economical, high recycling efficiency and consuming short reaction time which allowed significant product yield. The production of organic carbamates in presence of the present catalyst was a phosgene-free procedure where di-Me carbonate (DMC) was utilized both as carboxylating agent and solvent. The recovery of Pd-PS-amtp nanomaterial was easily performed after the reactions and recyclable up to six times without considerable reduction in catalytic activity.

The benzothiophene derivative was applicable to the photocatalytic reaction in the presence of potential excited-state quenchers such as oxygen and anilines. The high catalyst sensitivity would be attributed to the involvement of triplet energy transfer reaction pathway, which was not observed in the reaction with previously reported aminocyclopropenones.
