A solution of amine 1 (3.35 mmol, 1.0 equiv) in methylene chloride (40 mL) was cooled to 0 C. and charged with triethylamine (1.0 equiv) and trifluoroacetic anhydride (1.0 equiv). The resulting mixture was stirred for 15 min then partitioned between ethyl acetate and a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution.
