j00295j To a solution of 3 -chloroisoquinoline (0.50 g, 3.1 mmol) in concentrated sulfuric acid (10 mL) at 0 C was added a solution of potassium nitrate (0.34 g, 3.4 mmol) in concentrated sulfuric acid (5 mL). The mixture solution was stirred at 0 C for 2 hours and at room temperature for another 14 hours. On completion, the mixture was poured into ice-water (30 mL), resulting in formation of a precipitate.
