N-Alkynyl phthalimides, sulfonamides, ureas, and phosphonamides such as PhthNCCCMe2OCH2Ph (PhthN = 1,3-dioxo-2-isoindolyl) and N-alkynyl indoles and pyrroles such as I with propargylic benzyl ethers underwent chemoselective hydride shifts and fragmentation reactions in the presence of a X-Phos gold complex in either CHCl3 or ClCH2CH2Cl to yield γ-monosubstituted or γ,γ-disubstituted allenyl phthalimides, sulfonamides, ureas, phosphinamides, indoles, and pyrroles such as PhthNCH:C:CMe2 and II in 35-98% yields. I were prepared from terminal alkynes or bromoalkynes and phthalimide, sulfonamides, a benzimidazolone, a phosphinamide, pyrroles, and indoles. N-alkynyl pyrroles and indoles underwent tandem hydride shift, fragmentation, and cyclization reactions in three cases to yield indolizines and benzindolizines such as III in 88-97% yields; reaction of three N-alkynylsulfonamides followed by treatment with alumina yielded dienylsulfonamides in 83-88% yields.
