An iron-catalyzed cyclization reaction between ketoxime carboxylates and nitrones was developed to afford trisubstituted pyridines I [R1 = Ph, 4-MeC6H4, 2-furyl, etc.; R2 = Ph, 2-MeC6H4, 2-naphthyl, etc.]. Employing this strategy, a number of trisubstituted pyridines was synthesized with various functional groups in good yields under simple reaction conditions.
