A rapid, simple and efficient method for the synthesis of bis(indolyl)methanes (BIMs) I (R1 = Ph, 3-methoxyphenyl, 2,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl, etc.; R2 = H, 2-Me, 5-Br, 7-Me, etc.; R3 = H, Me, Bn) via the electrophilic substitution reaction of indoles II with benzaldehydes R1CHO promoted by hydrochloric acid supported on silica gel was developed.
