Kodo, Taiga published the artcileOrganophotoredox-catalyzed semipinacol rearrangement via radical-polar crossover, Quality Control of 104-01-8, the main research area is hydroxyethyl phthalic ester organophotoredox catalyst photochem decarboxylative semipinacol rearrangement; ethanone preparation; allyl alc electrophile organophotoredox catalyst photochem alkylative semipinacol rearrangement; propanone preparation.

The organophotoredox-catalyzed semipinacol rearrangement via radical-polar crossover (RPC) was reported. A phenothiazine-based organophotoredox catalyst facilitates the generation of an α-hydroxy non-benzylic alkyl radical followed by oxidation to the corresponding carbocation, which was exploited to undergo the semipinacol rearrangement. As a result, the photochem. approach enables decarboxylative semipinacol rearrangement of β-hydroxycarboxylic acid derivatives and alkylative semipinacol type rearrangement of allyl alcs. with carbon electrophiles, producing α-quaternary or α-tertiary carbonyls bearing sp3-rich scaffolds.
