A method for efficient and mild synthesis of diarylmethylamine scaffolds I [R1 = Ph, 1-naphthyl, 4-ClC6H4, etc.; R2 = Me, Et, Bn, etc.; R3 = 4-NMe2C6H4, 2-Me-4-NMe2C6H3, 1-pyrrolidyl, etc.] via Lewis acid catalyzed Friedel-Crafts reaction of donor-acceptor aziridines with N, N-dialkylanilines in high yields (up to 88%) was reported. This reaction was suitable for the synthesis of various compounds I and had a broad scope for electron-rich arenes, including dimethoxybenzene.
