Featuring mild reaction conditions, the protocol allowed readily available carboxylic acids to be converted into a wide variety of valuable aldehydes, ketones and amides. Mechanistic studies indicated that the decarboxylation and oxygenation involved the formation of active Mn-oxygen species.
