Matsubara, Ryosuke published the artcileModular Synthesis of Carbon-Substituted Furoxans via Radical Addition Pathway. Useful Tool for Transformation of Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids Based on “”Build-and-Scrap”” Strategy, Application of 4-Methoxyphenylacetic acid, the main research area is furoxan regioselective preparation; silver catalyst oxidative radical substitution arylsulfonyl furoxan alkylcarboxylic acid; build and scrap strategy radical functionalization furoxan.

Bis(arylsulfonyl)furoxans such as I (R = 4-MeC6H4, 4-ClC6H4, 4-FC6H4, 3-F3CC6H4, Ph) underwent regioselective substitution reactions with alkyl radicals generated from carboxylic acids such as Ph(CH2)3CO2H with K2S2O8 in the presence of AgNO3 in aqueous MeCN, allowing regioselective functionalization of furoxans. Further isomerization and substitution reactions allowed the regioselective preparation of a variety of furoxans such as II (R1 = PhSO2, 4-MeC6H4SO2, Me(CH2)5CC, F3C, EtO, PhO, EtS). II (R = PhSO2, EtO, F3C) were converted to a variety of compounds including oximes, amines and diamines, nitro compounds, nitriles, an oxadiazole, and isoxazoles and dihydroisoxazoles; the furoxan moiety can thus be used to form a variety of functional groups by a “”build-and-scrap”” strategy. The mechanisms of the addition and elimination steps of the regioselective substitution reactions bis(arylsulfonyl)furoxans was studied to account for the observed regioselectivities.
