Wei, Bin published the artcileElectrochemical radical C(sp3)-H arylation of xanthenes with electron-rich arenes, Safety of 1,3-Dimethoxybenzene, the main research area is aryl xanthene preparation green chem; xanthene arene electrochem radical arylation.

An efficient electrochem. C(sp3)-H arylation of xanthenes, e.g., 12H-benzo[a]xanthene with arenes ArH (Ar = 4-(dimethylamino)phenyl, 1-phenylpyrrolidine, 1-benzofuran, etc.) proceeds via a radical pathway. A series of 9-aryl-9H-xanthenes, e.g., I were observed to have been produced in the presence of a carbon anode, platinum cathode, MsOH and NHPI at room temperature from available N,N-disubstituted anilines, heterocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and anisoles. Notably, the significant advantages of this transformation were found to include mild transition-metal-catalyst-free reaction conditions, good functional group tolerance, and a highly atom- and step-economic strategy.
