An efficient β-cyclodextrin catalyzed multicomponent synthetic protocol was developed for the synthesis of spiro[indoline-3,2′-quinazoline]-2,4′(3’H)-diones I [R1 = H, F, Br, NO2; R2 = H, Et, n-Pr, Bn; R3 = Ph, 4-MeC6H4, 4-ClC6H4, etc.] from isatoic anhydride, isatins and primary amines in aqueous medium. This methodol. offered a convenient method for the synthesis of spiroindole quinazolines in excellent yields. To extend synthetic utility of protocol some dihydro-quinazolines II [R4 = 3-Me, 2,3-(OMe)2, 4-F, etc.] were also synthesized from isatoic anhydride, benzaldehydes and primary amines.
