A series of 2-amino-7,7-dimethyl-4-(aryl)-5-oxo-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-4H-chromene-3-carboxylate derivatives I [R = n-Bu, 2-ClC6H4, 4-FC6H4, etc.] was reported via a simple, efficient and environmentally friendly protocol. This was achieved through a three-component reaction of chosen aliphatic and aromatic aldehydes with iso-Pr cyanoacetate and 5,5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexanedione in aqueous ethanol under ultrasound irradn with excellent yields (95-99%) for rapid reaction times (5-15 min) at room temperature This method avoided the use of a catalyst, volatile organic solvents and column chromatog. The present method gave a 95% atom economy and 100% of carbon efficiency.
