Two soybean cultivars, G. max, which differed in fatty acid composition and yield showed no significant differences in their response to 13 herbicides. Trifluralin, nitralin, and vernolate induced changes in fatty acid composition and yield, but no changes in the percentage oil content in the seed. Increases in the percent stearic acid content were correlated with decreases in the percent linoleic acid content. With all treatments, there was no general correlation of changes in fatty acid composition with yield or injury.
